In the Hindi language movie "Mujhse Dosti Karoge" from 2002, Mohanlal plays a typical young man who gets himself into serious trouble with his wife. The film is a remake of the 1981 Bollywood film "Amar Akbar Anthony" and also stars Rani Mukherjee. The original 1981 film was remade in Telugu as "Ramadandu", starring Chiranjeevi, in Malayalam as "Mazhavillu", starring Jayaram, and in Kannada as “Ee Haathi Matalaku Mayakkina”, starring Dr Rajkumar. The film tells the story of three childhood friends who are separated by fate, but are brought together again. Rakesh (Mohanlal) is an innocent young man living with his parents in Chandigarh. Although he's married to Kajal (Rani Mukherjee), they hardly speak and lead completely separate lives. Meanwhile, his friend and neighbor Charlie (Shahrukh Khan) has a girlfriend, Vimi (Preity Zinta). The third friend is Kishan (Ajay Devgan) who has settled down in Bombay as a gangster. When the three friends meet again, they promise to meet once a month, but their friendship is put to the test when Rakesh's wife gets pregnant. The song "Jiya Jale" is picturized on Khan and Zinta. In this scene, Zinta is locked in a room and she sings the song as a lullaby to her unborn child. The scene ends on a bittersweet note with Rani Mukherjee's entry into the room as Mohanlal's wife. The song was composed by Nadeem-Shravan and written by Sameer. The song was picturized on Preity Zinta. Aamir Khan makes a special guest appearance in this movie when they meet in the cafe, where Rani Mukherjee works too. The music was composed by Nadeem-Shravan, with lyrics by Sameer. All the songs are based on classical raags, with the title track being based on Raag Yaman Kalyan. The soundtrack has 8 original compositions besides two remixes of already popular songs "Jiya Jale" and "Mujhse Dosti Karoge". The soundtrack received positive reviews upon release. Musicperk.com stated that "The album is quite impressive. There are some fresh, new fillers in the album, which are quite good in quality". "A review in MuzikSource said 'It's a catchy album which will give you an instant listen on many occasions', while another review at Planet Bollywood describes the soundtrack as being 'non-stop high pitched dance numbers'. The satellite rights of the film were sold to Zee World for ₹20 crores. The film was given a theatrical release on 3 May 2002 across Kerala except Malappuram where it released on 4 May 2002. cfa1e77820
